Lesson 4 Activity 1 - Design your own

In this lesson students will design their own chemical reaction projects consisting of a question, experimental design and model. In the first activity, students will learn about the computational science cycle and use it to scope their project.
  • Watch a video on the Computational Science Cycle
  • Learn about alterations to make to the chemical reaction model:
    • add more realistic details to the model with hydration of copper ions
    • assess the impact of changing the directional movement of ions in solution (mimicking mixing)
    • assess the impact of changing the speed of movement of ions in solution (mimicking heat)
  • Develop an original design for your computational science project using the project design form.

Three suggestions for projects:
1. Adding more realistic details to the model with hydration of copper ions.

2. Changing the directional movement of ions in solution. (See the wiggle procedure of the reactants.)

3. Changing the speed of movement of ions in solution. (See the wiggle procedure of the reactants.)

Develop an original design for your computational science project.
